Being diagnosed with pre and/or postnatal depression can be very difficult.
Sometimes there can be difficult decisions that might have to be made about employment. Sometimes taking that little extra time after giving birth to return to work might be really helpful but for others returning to work might also have a positive effect.
Pre and postnatal depression symptoms can differ from person to person and you may not have to change the way you work or your current employment.
However, some people may feel they would benefit if adjustments were made in their current work environment.
Your rights at work
It also says that the employer should make reasonable adjustments.
Reasonable adjustments could include:
changing working practices
working flexible or reduced hours
allowing a little extra rest time
If you're a member of a trade union they should be able to negotiate on your behalf to get reasonable adjustments, or to help with any other other disability discrimination issues.
